We might just be in luck with this motherboard, there is a bios update (5001)
that allows for the quad-core Athlon CPUs:

I did this very thing with my aging M2NPV-VM motherboard and put a quad
core CPU in there and it's all working fine! I upgraded to a Phenom II X4 925
(2.8ghz) and it was about $115 i think.
