Just as a query what are the benefits of the head mounted mike over
one that pins to to the front of the shirt. I wonder if some
presenters may not want to attach something to their ears, that has
been on heaps of other peoples ears.

Clarity. The headmounted mics, with the cable over the back, is less
likely to be caught or brushed against, and being positioned on the
head it is very clear.
I've not come across people not wanting to wear them - I've tried
them and found them quite comfortable, and they're so light you
forget about them after a few minutes. The only issue I have seen
was the odd beard being in the way - but most beards are fine. Even
still, clearer than the lapel mounted mic.
I also wonder if there is a Mic available with a built in transmitter,
as passing the transmitter around or the audience microphone handler
running around with it could see us having similar problems to what we
have now.

This mic has the transmitter built into the base of it. Its just one
stick to pass around - instead of the tethered (wired) mic we use
now. :)
