I use a stainless steel old style "cigarette case" as a wallet - got
tired of snapped, broken plastic cards with a leather wallet in the back
pocket :)

Work replaced the swipe card system and I found my access card worked
even inside the metal case.  Then they turned the sensitivity down and
and it stopped working - same with leather wallets with other cards
sandwiching the access card :(

Definitely a case of YMMV !
