It didn't work on the Solaris system I tried it on.  Unless you mean
"chown" in which case the above syntax (ie, with the colon) works on Linux
also.  Either way this thread probably should die right now - exactly how
each of the numerous versions of Unix (and their respective utilities)
handle this isn't highly relevant to a list about Linux and certainly isn't
relevant to the original question.
