[plug] dump: master/slave protocol botched ?

I checked dejanews but could only see one or two people with the same
problem and no solutions.

When dumping from one file system to another:
dump 0f - / | restore xf -
I got
DUMP: master/slave protocol botched ....

This is on RedHat 5.0 with dump-0.3-11. I did the /usr and /var
partitions no problem. I was also able to do individual directories
under / ok.

Anyone else bumped into this or know of a work around?
