PLUG, the Perth Linux Users Group (as distinct from PLUG in
Philadelphia) are holding a Quakefest for December, instead of the
regularly scheduled meetings. Visit PLUG at http://plug.linux.org.au/
and join the mailing list now if you live in Western Australia.

On Sunday 6 December from 1400 (2PM), festivities open at Global
Warriors, 2/31 Ledgar Road, Balcatta. Festivities consist of Quakeing,
xpiloting, MUDding, and whatever other interactive gaming activities
take your fancy PLUS massive network exchanges of free software, Linux
(and other freeware) installations, much chinwagging, and consumption of
the copious quantities of fine(?) food and drink available. Entry is $10
for GW members, $15 otherwise (which includes membership).

Bring your own computer and network card; UTP 10 megabit, UTP 100
megabit, BNC and AUI are all supported. In case of dire emergency (ie no
network card at all), we should even be able to support serial PPP
links. (-: Windows and Macintosh users are most welcome, as long as they
don't mind the Linux users continually mentioning that this sort of
capability comes with their OS... we would particularly enjoy seeing
*BSD and other Unix users represented here as well.

The Perth Linux Users group, revived this year by Chris Macdonald, is
growing from strength to strength, and needs willing members to learn
about and help evangelise Western Australia with the Open Source idea,
and Linux in particular. We are now a genuine official Association, with
officers and everything. Digital/Compaq have even donated us a webserver
(thanks, Peter Illmeyer). 1999, the Year Of The Impending Millennium,
presents an ideal opportunity to wean people from obselete proprietary
products and direct them to the safety, stability and standardisation of
Open Source platforms, and PLUG is now large and energetic enough to do
something about it. Join us on-line from our website at
http://plug.linux.org.au/ and help us to plan and to do!

"There's even a page about it on the web; I don't know the address,
you know, the slash-slash thing, but I'm sure our techie viewers out
there can find out... Ha, ha..." -- actual quote from PBS pledge break
