It is not recommended to compile linux 2.0.X with any compiler other than
gcc 2.7.2.X

with 2.1.X your mileage may vary, but you are recommended to stick with
2.7.2.X because that's what all the main kernel hackers use. (and they
may ignore you if you send in bug reports if you don't use the compiler
they use)
