It IS a real address. It's specfically reserved by the Internet gods for
use in private networks. As are
All 192.168.*.*
176.16.*.* through 176.31.*.*
10.*.*.*

These IP addresses can be used freely and in the knowledge that hosts
using them are inaccessible from the public network.
