Well, thanks for all the help. I've managed to connect to my isp without
logging in as root. As it turns out, I've been using asmodem with the -d
and -h options for connecting and disconnecting. I found this out from my
.steprc file. After that I used chmod to allow all users rwx on all the
config files being used with the asmodem -d and -h options.

Now, all I have to figure out is why pine isn't allowing me to delete
mail, claims it's read only?
