I AM using tcpd wrappers for other services. This has been in place since
Sep 14:
[root at possum /etc]# cat hosts.allow
#
# hosts.allow This file describes the names of the hosts which are
# allowed to use the local INET services, as decided
# by the '/usr/sbin/tcpd' server.
#
ALL:.os2.ami.com.au
It correctly matches the domain name I'm using, and is the same on both
systems:
[root at possum /etc]# hostname
possum.os2.ami.com.au
[root at possum /etc]# rsh emu hostname
emu.os2.ami.com.au
[root at possum /etc]#
/etc/hosts.deny is all comments:
[root at possum /etc]# cat hosts.deny
#
# hosts.deny This file describes the names of the hosts which are
# *not* allowed to use the local INET services, as decided
# by the '/usr/sbin/tcpd' server.
#
# The portmap line is redundant, but it is left to remind you that
# the new secure portmap uses hosts.deny and hosts.allow. In particular
# you should know that NFS uses portmap!
# ALL EXCEPT NFS : ALL
