No he didn't mean that.

I don't have access to my linux box at the moment, but from memory you need to 
look at:

/etc/autofs.master

it points to (default config)

/etc/autofs.misc

This has enough to get you started with a floppy and a CD.

Try /usr/doc for readme and such and ensure the autofs rpm is installed and 
started at boot. That is

/etc/rc.d/init.d/autofs exists and

/etc/rc.d/rc?.d/S??autofs exists

where the first question mark is your default run level and the following two 
are (usually) a two digit number.

If you are not running an rpm based system you will need to get a different 
package and follow it's readme.
