Have a look in your local .xinitrc file rather than anything in
/etc/rc.d/rc.5.

Whichever window manager you use, make sure you include the '&' at the
end of the entry. This tells X not to wait until the program has finished
before executing other programs in the file (eg, xv to paint a pretty
background image to your desktop, a file manager if you use one, yadda
yadda).
