Some years ago I worked my way through VideoModes.doc and made up a
spreadsheet to do the sums and adjustments.  It was not that difficult and
it worked so well that when I ran xvidtune on the result I did not have to
make a single change.

The spreadsheet is long gone (sorry) but the technique could still be
useful.  It amounts to making an "expert system" which can then be used as
often as required.
