Hmm
Had one myself yesterday. Fixed by updating to the 5.2 version of useradd.

It does work with fewer options: I've done it before. When I got the 
segfault I had the 5.2 version hand (*the entire 5.2's on my HDD) sup 
upgrading was trivial and I didn't need to explore combinations of options.
