Trevor,
It's the way it works.
You can increase the timeouts using
ipfwadm -s
followed by three numbers which represent in seconds
the timeouts for three types of packets that get
masqueraded.
The first is the one you want to change, and you can
supply 0 and 0 for the 2nd and 3rd to keep their current
values.
I usually bump of the timeout on TCP (the first) from 15 minutes (900) to
30 mins (1800) using
ipfwadm -M -s 1800 0 0
