"Kororareka: korora: blue penguin; reka: sweet, or tasty. An old chief lay dying
and expressed a wish for a penguin. After much searching, one was found. When it
was cooked he was too weak to eat it, but he drank some of the water in which it
was boiled, and murmured, "Ka reka te korara!" (How sweet is the penguin!)"
- A Dictionary of Maori Place Names - 1969 reprint, by A W Reed, published by A
H & A W Reed (No ISBN!)

Actually, there is an error in the translation in the book; "Ka" is the past
tense marker, and the words do not match the translation (nothing corresponds to
the "how", in the sentence quoted), so the translation would correctly be "The
penguin was sweet!"

Perhaps, if Maori names are to be considered, then, how about kororareka,
meaning sweet penguin?
