If there were a mail/browser app as easy to use I wouldn't.

Only 2 uncommented lines in the mailcap:

image/jpeg; xv %s;  test=test -n "$DISPLAY"
image/*; xv %s; ;  test=test -n "$DISPLAY"

And nothing for bmp in mime.types.
