Now you have a good HDD, you should install RHL 6 which comes with KDE and 
gnome - gnome IS more powerful, though I think KDE has a prettier face.

RHL 6 has these KDE rpms:

which may be a little more than you require, but the combination will work.

The window manager I'm using is enlightenment, much better then fvwm*
