Hi, Kevin.

I'd agree with Tony, having had the same thing (boot stuck at "LI").
Adding "linear" in the lilo config file solved it nicely.  That was in
spite of having the whole system at <1024 cyls.  Not sure if it is
position-sensitive in the file, but I put mine between the root and boot
statements, like this...
boot=/dev/hda1
linear
root=/dev/hda1
