Try the [global] section like this:

[global]
  workgroup = mygroup
  server string = Samba on Linux file and printer server
  guest account = ftp
  log file = /var/log/samba-log.%m
  max log size = 25
  lock directory = /var/lock/samba
  share modes = yes
  keep alive = 60

  preserve case = yes
  case sensitive = no

  os level = 65
  local master = yes
  preferred master = yes
  domain master = yes
  wins server = <IP_address_of_your_NT_WINS_Server>
  encrypt passwords = yes

  printing = bsd
  printcap name = /etc/printcap
  load printers = yes

Works for me . .
