Chris, he's got Slackware _3.0_
It's at least 2 years old. It will have all the linux bugs in it that
appeared on bugtraq in the past couple of years, and then some. It is NOT
going to be the most secure out of the two.
:)
On the other hand for a desktop system that's not going to be on the 'net,
it should be fine.

P.S. None of the systems are completely secure out of the box anyway. If
you're really paranoid (eg, you are a sysadmin :P) you really need to go
through manually and de-suid files, and remove entries from inetd that you
don't need there etc.
