My daughters are students at ECU, and for some things they need to connect
to Cowan's internet service: mine just ins't good enough.

After digging through the "how to connect from winders 95" stuff two or
three times I finally manged to find the critical info before going to
sleep.
                 # When the Modem Pool login prompt appears; enter your information.
(If you do not see anything at this stage press the
<Enter> key once or twice. Also, resize the window
if it is too small to see the messages and the
                    prompts):
Modem Pool Username:   type your login ID
                    then press <Enter>
Modem Pool Password:   type your password
                    then press <Enter>
                 # When your password has been accepted (your IP address will be

Well that seems clear enough: I wait for Username: and send off whichever
daughter's userid. Possibly I'll have to send a carriage return or two.
Here is one of several transcripts:

It seems clear to me: the instructions say I should receive the string
"name:" - I search for it but instead get the "Annex Command Line
Interpreter" line. I have tried sending one or two CRs in response to this
line to no avail.

We've tried phoning the helpdesk: after they left us on hold for 30-40
minutes, we're not keen to try again. Rachel asked at the Mt Lawley campus
and was told "get KDE coz its really easy."

The recorded message we got when placed on hold suggested email: we tried
that and a week w/o reply has passed.

Does anyone here really know how to do it?
