After the PLUG meeting on 22 March, when we were exposed to the wonder of
VMware, I told a few people about it, and I thought you might be interested
in this response.

I asked the person whether I could post it on the mailing list, and the
response was okay, provided I stripped the message of anything that could
identify the sender.

Bret,
I installed VMware on my Linux (only - none of this multiple-booting shit!)
machine at home. The machine is a P2-266 with 64Mb RAM and 128Mb swap
partition.
I installed winbloze 95 as the 'guest' OS and Orifice 95. All ran well (or
as
well as a dodgy operating system can!) - windoze ran a tad faster than it
does
on my 486-DX4/100 - this would probably improve using the full version with
debugging turned off. Window$ didn't crash (!!!!!! - it did reboot the VM
more
times during install than I have rebooted Linux in the last six months) and
I
think Linux/VMware managed the VM's memory and CPU usage quite well.

First impressions (with caveat - I haven't used it under pressure yet): good
bit
of gear. $99US for academic use seems quite a good price - it's certainly
better
than any of the emulators currently available.

Of course, I am hanging out for the day when we don't need to run any
winshit at
all!
