[plug] kppp

I wonder if anyone is having the same drama as this..
Using the apcmag pocketbook disks..
When I install OpenLinux 2.2, it all goes well. I get the internet connection
set up, no worries..
But next time I log in to Linux and try to use the internet via kppp, it reports
that ppp is not a part of the kernel, or a loaded module!
Somewhere in the documentation it mentions that there is a problem with this
"feature" (the ppp/kernel/module detection), but there is no mention of how to
turn it off.
I have now used the RHL6.0 from the same set of disks, and it works. IF I use
Gnome.. Using kppp through Gnome is OK, but if i use it through kde, it says
that ppp is not there!! And once it has reported that it isn't there, it won't
work in Gnome either.. @%#@!%*%&!#$!$#.
The question.. (Oh good, he's getting to the question...).
Anybody know of a switch for the command line (well the launcher) which tells
the system to NOT to check for ppp?
Garry.
