[plug] TCP timeout values - advice appreciated

Having just written something sort of like a web robot. I've found,
predictably, that some sites just don't respond quickly (and some don't
respond at all !).  The IP-chains documentation mentions changing the TCP
timeout from 15 minutes (the default), and I was looking for experiences
from anyone in plug-land whose done it.

Did it help?  Or not?  Did it make a difference?
