Go to www.mpegtv.com and download their 30-day trial viewer, which
includes a freeware commandline viewer "mtvp"
(Or pay the US$10 to get it registered so you can use the GUI for more
than 30 seconds :)

Works great on vcd's as well as "normal" mpeg files.
