<RANT>
It IS redundant, on a server whose index document is called index.html.
The name exists so that the "directory" can have a page, without
REQUIRING a filename; it's a default! It's NOT a hard concept, yet the
places I see people specify the extra index.html (or default.htm on
Winblows/IIS servers) are terrible!
I am SOOO tempted to configure the server I manage to redirect all
index.html URL requests to the correct, simpler, tidier, URL. Maybe then
people would get a clue!
If you're in a file manager, it's index.html. If it's URL form, it's
just the directory default.

Sorry ... Personal pet-hate of mine. ^_^;;;
