Are you sure that you haven't firewalled yourself off or something? Does
everything else work between the 2 machines?

What I do is put up named on the samba server, name all of your local
boxes, and then when the link goes up/down, copy in a /etc/named.conf
with/out the appropriate forwarders in it and
/var/named/whateveryourroothintsfileiscalled with/out appropriate root
hints in it, and kill -HUP named. Then your Win boxen can be set to use
the DNS full-time and not worry about the consequences. It also helps to
be a WINS server and win all elections, as it considerably reduces
network traffic.

Mmmm. Some configuration items, particularly defaults, changed. I
suggest doing a context diff on your modified smb.conf vs the original,
unedited old config (you _do_ have a copy around, don't you?), and then
try applying it to the new original, unedited config to see what
happens. Also, read *ALL* of the comments in the new smb.conf and be
sure that none apply to you.
