[plug] VCD and Linux

Is there a GPL alternative to mtv's vcd player for linux?  My daughter
has a friend in Honkong
who has sent her the latest Jackie Chan movie on vcd but I can't find
any other player. It will only play a splash screen and  unless you
cough with some money to register it.

I'm also not that keen on have additional libraries SDL and xforms
either.

Is there any other way?
