FWIW, what you can currently buy for three or four bucks is a low end
PIC microcontroller, such as an 8 pin 12C509. 1K of one-time-programmable
memory, 41 bytes of RAM, six I/O pins and power.  About a couple of orders
of magnitude faster than ENIAC (1 000 000 additions/second versus 5 000
additions per second). Not bad for 50 years of progress.

I hope to be playing with these a bit more in coming months.
