Pluggers,

Looking at the BogoMips mini-howto (thanks Matt) there are two sections that
seem to apply

3.7 Normal Pentium systems
     Pentium/166         66.76     F. Baitinger <baiti at herrenberg.netsurf.de>

3.8 Normal Pentium variations: Intel
     Pentium MMX/166     333.41    Sjoelie <patrick at sjoel.xs4all.nl>

Does this mean that the old kernel wasn't using the "MMX" capability of my
hardware (not sure that I have MMX)?

Sorry for the SPAM - probably just goes to show how Bogus the rating really
is....
