in RedHat 6.[01] you need to enable it in /etc/sysconfig/network
there is a line 'FORWARD_IPV4='  Make sure that is set to 'true'

In RedHat 6.2 you also need to set it in /etc/ssyctl.con (or similar)
Ther have been a few posts on this about this before.  I can't remember
exactly when ???
