Well, sorry I (re-)started it, I'm just a newbie though :)

I would like it to be consistent one way or the other.  At the moment I get
a mix of some 'reply's to the individual and some to the list - and yes,
it's when I click the same button.

I would actually vote for 'no munging' if it were consistent (which it
doesn't seem to be).

Please note: this is a vote only and I'm old enough to do things manually if
it's significantly easier for others or I'm in a minority :)
