Seems to be generating an interesting thread :-)

Why do I suddenly feel nervous?  My poor machine!!  Note - although this
isn't a production machine, it does have personal data on.

The idea, I think is to only allow one person per account - give them read
access to things they require, and make the changes yourself, based upon
advice given...  I know there is some level of danger involved here - but
then you have to trust someone sometime...

I don't currently have the cryptographic libraries installed - so no SSH
either I'm afraid...   I would be correct in saying that you'd have to be
on the TCP/IP route to get the root password from a telnet session..  (I
log in as myself and su to root using telnet).  Even then I imagine this
would be reasonably difficult - for some level of reasonable.
