Back, in the early 1980's, I was speaking with an atmospheric physicist,
who told me that, in the event of a full-on nuclear war in the northern
hemisphere, all the human life (or, life pretending to be human) would
be exterminated immediately. He also told me that, due to the
atmospheric winds, the southern hemisphere would be safe, for a couple
of years, providing that no nukes landed in the vicinity; however, the
fallout would take about two to three years, to find its way to
Australia and New Zealand. The result is that the life in the northern
hemisphere (apart from the cockroaches) would be exterminated
immediately, and, in the southern hemisphere, death would be slower,
taking a couple of years.

So, nowhere is safe; it is just a matter of whether you die quickly,
preferably without knowing it, as you become vapourised, or, whether you
die slowly, from radiation sickness...

Isn't life wonderful?
