[plug] Simplest POP dial-in sequence ?

Hi chaps,

Um <cough>, Am considering using an embedded system with an 8bit micro
running at 11MHz and external modem to send an email to a recipient...

ie. I want the embedded system to:-

a.	dial my ISP
b.	Connect at most efficient means 'ppp' or smtp or whatever
c.	Send a short email message - around 128 chars max
d.	Log off

The little embedded micro has a block of 32 bytes ram but heaps of
high speed eeprom, some of which can retain the config specs for
the ISP etc...

Do I really need to set up a full TCP stack since I only need a
one way (effective) flow - won't be checking email, just sending it,

Can I eg start a script at the dial in session in my home dir and
have that treat the connection as a simple serial comms and hence
bypass the tcp issue,

Is a minimal tcp stack readily documented in linux, if not where ?

Any other ideas on how this might be doen with real minimal h/w, s/w ?

Kind Regards ~`:o)

Some say there is no magic but, all things begin with thought then it becomes
academic, then some poor slob works out a practical way to implement all that
theory, this is called Engineering - for most people another form of magic.
