Only if the server is configured to answer the modem (ie some form of
getty, such as mgetty, installed)

Otherwise the number will just keep ringing until the caller gets bored,
or they reach the (120 seconds?) timelimit imposed by Telstra.

Even if the modem is set to AutoAnswer (ATS0=1) without a getty or
serial console running on the /dev/ttySx the caller isn't going to get
anywhere.
