[plug] Ethertap device

G'day all
Has anyone used the ethertap device before..
I have it configured and working.. sort of..
I cant access it from a non-root user..
I have rw for UGO but it still gives me an error when
trying to access it non-root..
I did a search of linux-kernel and linux-net archives
and somebody posted the same question not long ago, but
he never recieved an answer on-list...

Configured the device as per the linux/Documentation file
did the mknod and then chmod a+rw for that device..
Anyone have any ideas ?
