Hmmm... so perhaps the reason you're tossing $$$'s at this new machine
is really a cry for help? That is, you want to beef up your Linux
machine so that you can migrate to Linux for doing your "real" work and
escape from a life of agonising waits, over-priced software, blue
screens and erratic failures? Am I right? If not and this new machine
would just be an idle server sitting in the corner of the room that
nobody notices and never gets used then the advice to upgrade the memory
and hard disk a little and spent the rest of the money on something else
is a very good idea. However, if I'm right and you actually want to
start using Linux as your main desktop system then spend away and enjoy
what will be a truly blissful piece of machinery. (I run Linux at home
and work on a K6-2/300 and PII/266 respectively and I don't remember the
last time I had to wait for something so I can barely imagine what you
have in store for yourself.)

Regards,

Christian.
