[plug] Backspace problem in X windows

For some reason my backspace key isn't working in X windows, or not as
it shoud. It deletes the characters in front of it as delete does,
instead. I've gotten advice from a few people on IRC, but no fix yet.
stty -a shows that erase is still mapped to ^h. The key combination
ctrl-h works fine. 

Can anyone give me advice on how to fix this?
