[plug] ALSA Drivers

G'day all,
anyone out there using ALSA ?
I'm trying to compile it up, 
the drivers and lib compile ok, but the utils won't
configure, giving me unresolved symbol errors with the
libasound.so library...
anyone seen similar ?
Debian Slink system..
