Isn't there a "Unix in a Nutshell" which covers either Solaris or SCO or
both?  Also, as you say this is for a course, what Unix are you going to
be using in the practicals/examples?  If Linux then I would recommend
"Running Linux" also by O'Reilly.

Very unnecessary -- teach them to use man(1).

Dymocks on William St. have both of the books I've mentioned.  Boffins
up around the corner do also.

Another one worth considering might be "Debian Unleashed" or something
similar although only obviously if you're teaching Debian.  I had a
quick flick through it the other day and it looked remarkably good... I
normally never even pick up the "* Unleashed" books.
