Hmm.. everybody seems to have ignored that part of your email and
suggested you unplug the phone.

Since it doesn't seem to be that particular phone, have you tried
unplugging the other 2?

If you have a friend with an Austel license, getting someone to rewire
that plug might be a good thing to try, or otherwise you could ask Telstra
to come check your line out (don't know if they charge for that)

On the other hand, it might not be the phone line at all - try borrowing a
modem (different brand)
