I come from an IBM mainframe background. All file open/close/create/delete 
operations can be logged. Its information would have revealed
1	The program
2	Who ran it
3	When the program started
4	When it ended (and what I/O, memory and CPU resources it used).


It might be overkill for a single-user workstation such as WIN* is 
designed for, but Linux is multiuser.
