Use PAP authentication or if you need to use a script then doe either
a) turn off debugging output
   in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0
   set DEBUG=no
b) make the password invisbale
   in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-ppp0
   place a \q in fronmt of your password.
