as Beau said, 16MB isnt really enough for X. Not for a beginner
experimenting anyway.
   Why don't you put the HDD into your main win98 or win2k machine, and
disconnect the existing HDD? Just tell the bios to auto-detect the new HDD
settings, and you're away, without risk to your windoze HDD.
   Later, when feeling more safe, you might even connect both hard drives,
and dual-boot.
