The problem is apparently (according to notes on the win4lin site) some
installers bypass windows/normal disk access procedures which are not
trapped. They return a unix path of the form "win/windows/tmp" instead
of "c:\windows\tmp". In this case win is a sub of $HOME and is equiv to
"C:". The installer shows the path, but does not allow it to be
changed. Hope to get to it later today and try some things.
