[plug] debian question

Greetings,

Today I discovered how to find out more about a debian installation (I've
been a RedHat and Mandrake user for a while). During the installation,
select the option where you get to choose from the list of packages,
rather than the pre-defined sets, then hit the wrong key in dselect and
end up with nothing other than the base system installed. Then spend a
while learning about apt-get, dpkg and friends.

But there's something I can't work out... How can I get apt to install
gnome 1.2? I have the first two potato CDs, with gnome 1.0.56, and have
added ftp.wa.au.debian.org and ftp.au.debian.org (an alias for
mirror.aarnet.edu.au apparently) to sources.list (with apt-setup), but
can't seem to find gnome 1.2 anywhere.

Can someone give me a quick pointer to how to do this?
