Tony,
Windows 2000 does have the ability to give you a command prompt.
You can type commands just like in the old DOS Window however I
think that a lot of the command line functionality has been taken
away -- probably for the reasons that Bret mentioned previously.
I haven't tried cygwin on Windows 2000 but that could be a good
alternative if you find that Windows 2000 CLI lacks the necessary
things to get the job done.
