[plug] Interface Keeps Dying

Any suggestions as to why a 3com509b NIC might keep dying after a few minutes?
ifconfig reports it as being up even when it's not, and an ifdown/ifup kicks
it alive again. The IRQ and IO are not conflicting with anything else, and PnP
has been switched off at card level. In the absence of something else (ideas?),
I'm concluding the NIC's had it.
